With or Without You

So you’re looking for a feel good film with Chris in. One that won’t leave you sobbing with grief or heading

Not that it’s simple – on the contrary: this is one of the nicest complex characters I’ve seen Chris play. But I promise you a happy ending. I rather wish someone had made me that promise before I watched it: my first viewing was impaired by the fact that knowing Chris’s taste in miserable plots I was on the edge of my seat expecting something disastrous and Hardyesque to happen at any moment.

The plot is simple: a fairly traditional man’s man of a bloke and the wife he adores want a baby. And it doesn’t happen. The effect on them emotionally and the strain it puts on their marriage is accentuated by the sudden and unannounced arrival of her old pen-pal from France. As teens these two conducted a written love affair – yet never met: and now is about the worst time for him to show up!

This is a film to enjoy. Angsty but safely so; well characterised and acted; enjoyable and feel-good. I could wish Chris did more like this!

I won’t comment on the accent: Belfast isn’t one I’m too familiar with, though it sounds pretty good to me. If it was good enough for Dervla, I’m not arguing.

Now: the caps: these weren’t easy as the style is ‘documentary’ so much is shot in near natural light, with a lot of fuzzy action shots. However, when I checked the file at the end of the capping process I had rather more than I needed. I’ve cut it down to just over 200, and will spread them over two pages!

This film has a lot of nekkidness and bonking, most of which has been capped. Sharp eyed viewers have spotted shots of Chris’s bits in one dorsal camera angle. I haven’t included those shots on this page – somehow it felt intrusive to take a tiny glimpse in a motion shot and freeze the moment in a cap. Some things should mebbe stay private. There are people and places on the net to find such images if you want. If he ever goes full frontal, it’ll be different; though I guess after Doctor Who, he may keep his nose clean to retain his ‘family actor’ status. Not that it's his nose we're talking about…

For someone who claims no handy skills, he does a good job of looking like he knows what he's doing!
